Perth Glory won a bruising friendly 2-0 against a West Australian side that had six former Glory players in its first eleven. Glory coach Bernd Stange was expecting a physical game but by no means to the extent that it was. Vasko Trpcevski was on the receiving end of some brutal challenges which eventually forced him out of the game before the half hour, following a Paul McVittie challenge. And with fifteen minutes to go State coach Gary Marocchi pulled Peter Vukmirovic from the field after he hacked down Scott Miller.
Michael Garcia broke the deadlock with a stunning free-kick from 25-metres that bulged Robert Zabica’s net five minutes before the interval. Western Australia had their chances to draw level in the second half but neither Carl McDarby nor Trim Morgan could capitalise when the opportunity presented. Glory substitute John Markovski showed them how it was done a minute from the end by firing in from close-range after good lead-up work between Bobby Despotovski and Vas Kalogeracos.
