Born in Perth, Iozzelli made an impact from his junior days and gave every indication that he would go all the way in the game. And in a fifteen-year senior playing career, the majority of which he played for Azzurri, he did exactly that. On the local stage Iozzelli collected winners medals for three First Division championships, two D'Orsogna Cups, three Night Series and one Top Four Cup, and was twice voted West Australia's best under-16 player.
Iozzelli gained senior State selection for the first time against Legia Warsaw in February 1975 and in near no time had established himself as an integral part of the line-up. He total he would play thirty-seven times for West Australia, a tally that includes back-to-back wins of the Marah Halim Cup (1975 and 1976) and appearances against visiting clubs Middlesbrough, Glasgow Rangers, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland amongst others.
In June 1975 Iozzelli donned the green and gold of Australia for the first time in a 'B' international against South Korea. He entered the fledgling National Soccer League in April 1978, debuting for Brisbane City against West Adelaide and within two months earned his first senior cap for Australia against. Upon completion of the season with Brisbane he returned to Azzurri and gained further State honours against Norwich City, Red Star Belgrade and UC Dublin, wearing the captain's armband against the latter.
